Lilac not blooming - Guilderland, NY

Please help!!! I planted a lilac about 5 years ago and it has yet to bloom. What should/can I do?

Although most lilacs will bloom within several years of planting, large standard types may take longer to come into bloom. Also, make certain that the shrub is getting adequate sunlight. Lilacs bloom best in full sun. Avoid using fertilizers high in nitrogen because they can delay bloom.
