Hydrangeas & flowering plants under hemlock?

Hydrangeas? I am looking for one that will survive lining under a hemlock tree. Is that possible? Or is there a perennial flowering plant other than hostas that would survive & florish?

Hi, Well if your hemlock is mature and very dense, it's doubtful you'll get anything to grow underneath it. I would start by experimenting with a hosta or two to see if they survive. If they do, then, you can try other shade loving perennials, but it's highly doubtful any type of shrub such as a hydrangea could live there. It's generally very difficult to grow anything underneath any type of conifer.
