How harmful is dyed bark mulch to plants?

I'd LOVE to have a burgundy-colored mulch to match the house; I'm debating over rocks or wood chips. For the wood chips, I've read that the dyes in colored bark mulches can leach into the soil & be harmful to plants. Is this true? Just HOW harmful is it?? (Is it not worth the risk?) Are there any OTHER options for a burgundy-colored mulch???
