Can Plants Get Sunburned? Different question to the one already posted. Your previous answer says yes, if they are inside and moved outside quickly. But even plants that are growing outside in bright sunlight, a friend told me that watering washes off some protection and also the pores open up to receive the water, both allowing for sunburn. Is this true?

Your friend is wrong about the cause of the sunburn, but it is true that some plants simply don't tolerate full, hot sunlight. Such plants should be moved to part or full shade.
