What should I do to increase the size and number of strawberries on my strawberry plant?
Did you plant the same strawberry variety you had in the East? Planting a variety that did well for you back East could be the problem. Many strawberry varieties do well only in certain regions. Check to see what varieties your county extension service recommends. Or buy plants from a locally owned garden center, because it is likely to carry varieties that are adapted to your area.
To encourage healthy plants, feed them well with a balanced fertilizer (meaning that it has relatively even amounts of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium), and keep the plants mulched with lots of organic matter, preferably in raised beds for good drainage. Grow them in full sun; strawberries grown in shade don't have the energy to produce lots of good fruit.
