What makes cantaloupe sweet?

Last year I planted cantaloupe and they grew really big and so sweet. I ordered and planted the same seeds this year and they taste mediocre. Do you have suggestions?

Hi, Sweetness can vary by the amount of moisture the plant has received. Think about if the two crops received differing amounts of rain or irrigation. That's my guess. Too much water, can cause them to lose some flavor.
