How do I prune my pomegranate tree?

What is the best way to prune my pomegranate tree? Many thanks

Pomegranate may be trained to grow either as a shrub or a tree. From your question, I'd guess that yours is basically growing as a tree already. When growing pomegranate as a tree, allow 4 to 6 strong leaders to develop, evenly spaced around the trunk, to create a vase-shape scaffold branch system. Remove all other shoots.

Most flowers (which will develop into fruits) are produced on short spurs found on the outer edge of the tree. Use light dormant pruning to encourage growth of new fruiting spurs.
