Cherry trees leaves turning yellow

I live in zone 5 (Illinois) and have ordered bare root cherry trees twice and planted them and they died after the first year. I also tried to plant potted trees. I can't seem to get them to live more than the first year. I have one that is still alive (4 ft) but not growing (did produce fruit) and now the leaves are turning yellow on it and dropping off. We have had a a lot of rain and I know they don't like wet feet but you can't control the weather so what can I do? Help!

If poor drainage is the problem, you can grow the cherry trees on a berm or in a raised bed to help provide better drainage. That way, even if the weather is excessively wet, the root system won't stay saturated.
