Flax

Thank you so much for this service. I live in Omaha, NE and have a Flax plant. Until recently it has been blooming every morning. Now I have two or three blooms in the morning and the rest appear to be dried seeds. I have looked up in my garden books and they say that my bloom time is over. Do I need to now cut the plant back or just leave it. I want it to be as beautiful next year as it has been this year.

Hi,

I suggest you leave it alone because flax isn't necessarily a reliable return visitor in the north. It can come back for several years and then disappear. That's why, if you leave the flowers in place, it may reseed itself so you are sure of a return flower show next year.
