Bergenia doesn't bloom

Although my bergenia has been spreading, there are no blooms in the spring. I don't know why. I use a granular fertilizer in the spring for blooms.

Thanks for writing. Is your bergenia growing in a shady spot? Too much shade may keep it from blooming well.

How often do you fertilize and how's your soil? Too many nutrients can encourage a plant to grow only leaves, at the expense of flowers. If you have good, rich soil AND you're feeding the plant extra, that could be it.

Also: Bergenias tend to flower lightly after harsh winters.
