What is the Knock Out rose and what are characteristics of it?

I've been hearing a lot about the Knock Out rose. What's so special about it? Is it a good rose to grow?

Knock Out was a 2000 winner of the All-America Rose Selection organization. It's a shrub rose that grows to about 3 feet tall and wide. It blooms from spring through fall with single cherry red flowers in clusters of 3 to 15. The glossy green foliage is tinged with shades of burgundy and has excellent disease resistance. It is considered an outstanding landscape rose. It has proven so popular that newer varieties with a broader color range have also been introduced. Blushing Knock Out is delicate pink; Pink Knock Out is fluorescent pink.
