Large White spots on my hibiscus leaves. Pest or mildew? How to teat them?

A few days after placing the wintered/potted hibiscus on our deck, the leaves started turning white in large spots, and some edges look eaten. The leaves then dry in those areas and finally fall off. We have had lots of rain lately. Today, I noticed that one of the stems looks whitish in color although I can't scratch anything off. What might the problem be? Thanks!

IF you can't scratch anything off, my thought is that this may be sunburn, which is common after placing a plant outdoors after wintering indoors. Usually, the affected leaves drop and new ones grow.
