How do I layer bulbs in my garden?
Layering bulbs is a space-saving technique that many gardeners take advantage of. To do it, select large bulbs, such as daffodils, and also smaller bulbs, such as grape hyacinths. Some gardeners like to pair bulbs that bloom at the same time for greater impact; others choose bulbs that bloom at different times to prolong the spring show. Keep the timing in mind as you select varieties. Once you’ve made your choices and are ready to plant, put the larger bulbs in the ground as usual. Then add soil and plant the smaller bulbs. Leave at least an inch between the top of the bigger bulb and the bottom of the smaller bulb, for best results. Follow recommended planting depths for each type of bulb
