Will plastic give my garden a "greenhouse" effect?

Will covering my garden with 4 mil. clear poly plastic help my 'mostly shady' garden grow better than without it?? Will it give it a "greenhouse" effect? It only receives approx. 2-3 hours of afternoon sun daily but it DID produce some veggies last year. I live in zone 5 and only covered the top, not the sides.

Hi, Well the plastic will certainly help heat the soil, but it won't do anything to convince sun-lovers to grow in the shade. The key to success with veggies is sunlight so if your area gets less than 6 hours of direct sun a day, nothing you can do will increase your success.
