Small flower garden and landscape fabric

I have a small area off my deck (10 x 3) to plant flowers in full sun. Should I put down landscape fabric around plants or just mulch around perennials and annuals?

I recommend landscape fabric only for areas where you're going to ""plant and forget."" This is more common with woody plants such as shrubs and trees. For flowerbeds, I would skip the landscape fabric (it's a hassle to plant in) and use a nice mulch of shredded leaves.
