dead head lilac's

Should I cut off all of last years dead blooms.I'm new at this and just bought this house,the yard has lots of lilac's(my favorite) Will this help with new blooms?

Thanks for writing. Cutting off a lilac's dead, faded blooms will help the plant bloom better next year because it won't put energy into making seeds.

That said, many gardeners find their lilacs bloom fine without deadheading. So it's not something you have to do --- it just helps the plant.
