Are the three components of a basic organic plant fertilizer nitrogen, phosphorus and potasium?

Yes - The major elements needed by plants are nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. Organic and inorganic fertilizers that are available in the garden centers will have the percentage of these elements stated on the label. However do not confuse fertilizers with soil amendments such as compost, animal manures, rotted leaves etc. These also add N,P, & K to a degree, but their value is more one of improving the structure and texture of the soil that results in good crops.
