Caring for a Lantana plant

I was given a Lantana last year. I live in Northern Wisconsin. I cut it down last fall and put it in my basement. I think it's dead now the stems are dry and brittle. It is in a container and the previous owner had it for years and never had a problem with it growing back each spring. Did I do wrong by cut it back and putting it in the basement?

HI, Well I don't know how the previous owner had success because that treatment should not work. Lantanas are tropical shrubs that you could try overwintering in a sunny window in your home, but cutting them back and putting them in the basement will only kill them. In northern gardens, lantana is best treated as an annual flower.
