Pinching at Transplant

I am in the process of transplanting some plugs annuals into pots and my instructions call for pinching them at this time. Some also call for a "soft pinch". What's the difference and how is the best way to do it?

Thanks for writing. A soft pinch means to simply just remove the growing point of a plant --- pinching can be just the point or removing several sets of leaves at once.

If your seedlings have several sets of leaves, you can pinch back the top set of leaves or two. But don't remove more than 1/4 of the leaves.

Thanks for writing. Good luck!
