Converted Antique Milk Jug Flower Pots

I have taken antique metal milk jugs, painted them dark green and have put a flower pot in the top of them. They are in full sun on the west side of the yard. I have had several annual flowers designed for full sun planted so far this year and all have died. Are the milk jugs causing the problem and just are not designed to be used as flower pots? Susan

Hi Susan,

Thanks for writing. Do the jugs have drainage holes drilled in so excess water can escape? If not, the plants inside may be drowning. Has it been hot in your area? It's also possible that the sun is making the metal too hot for some types of plants.
