Squirrels in hanging baskets of petunias

They love to get in the hanging baskets and while swinging away they dig and eat what? the roots? I know they love the pink flowers and nibble them like rabbits would. I find foot log branches on the ground beneath the basket. If two of them get in there at a time it is havoc. I have sprayed "cat begone" in there and that doesn't work. Any suggestions ----barbed wire? Thanks, Sara

I have found that very hot pepper sauce diluted to half strength has worked to repell squirrels from hanging baskets.
