Snails and Slugs

I have a problem with snails or slugs..what can i do to keep them from eating my plants ?

I too, have a problem with slugs. I have heard leaving a small bowl of beer will draw them in. I find they are attracted to bird seed as well. I hand pick them each morning as I check my garden. Get rid of old leaves they like to hide there. I have also heard they won't cross copper or eggshells, but putting on a rubber glove and handpicking seems to work best for me..
