Is there any way I can reduce carcinogens in grilled meats?
Try these four smart ways to reduce your exposure to carcinogens in grilled foods:
1. Marinate your meat for 3 to 4 hours before grilling to reduce your exposure by as much as 50 percent. Plus, marinades make meats taste great!
2. Do not eat burned or charred meat. The carcinogenic content is greater on charred foods.
3. Clean your grill regularly and make sure all charred bits stuck to the grates are removed before cooking.
4. Precook meat in the oven before placing it on the grill. Less time on the grill means less time for carcinogen exposure.
