Are the lettuces in prebagged salads really clean and ready to eat?
Submitted by kayla.b.craig

You would think that bags and packages of fresh spinach and lettuce bearing the words, “prewashed,” “ready to eat,” or “triple washed” would be squeaky clean, but tests by Consumer Reports and others show that these convenient ready-to-go greens have room for improvement.

To ensure that packaged greens are safe for your family, be sure to buy them as far from their “use by” date as possible—and give them an extra washing at home.
