How can I keep my cake layers from sliding to one side?

How do I get round cake to evenly stay on top of each other without sliding to one side?

While frosting the cakes insert long wooden skewers down through the layers to stabilize. Leave the skewers in until serving time. Then, remove before serving, using a knife to spread frosting over the small holes left by the skewers. Good luck!
