Why do my cookies turn out small, flat, and crispy?

I followed the recipe exactly, my cookies came out smaller and flatter than the picture. What happened. Also, cookies come out much crisper once cooled. Too much mixing?

Make sure if the recipe calls for butter that you use real butter, not a margarine or butter substitute. These products contain more water and can cause flat cookies that spread more and cause the texture to be a little harder or crisper due to the lower amount of fat present.

Try mixing 1/2 real butter with 1/2 Crisco. Make sure the real butter is not soften too much (just enough to mix)
