There are many varieties of apples that are great to use in pies. Here are some suggested varieties: Granny Smith, Rome, Jonathan, Cameo, Pink Lady, or Braeburn. Good luck with your apple pie!

I have found it depends on where you live and of course the time of year. I am from Michigan and as the saying goes "Spies for pies". We also use Ida Reds when Spies are no longer available. The woman that owns are local orchard also told me they will use a combination of whats left and it makes a wonderful flavor.
