Will placing furniture in front of an air return be a problem?

I doubt that it will be any problem in a large, open room. The cold air return is the passive side of your heating and cooling system. So as long as return air can get around the side of the console to keep air circulating through the room back to the furnace you’ll be fine—especially since you have two returns in the room.
