get new or used good looking kitchen cabinets that are as cheap as possible

I have 70's cabinets in the kitchen. I want to remodel the cabinets, and I'd like to know how to do this as cheap as possible, still getting a good look.

Investigate if there is a Habitat for Humanity Re-Store in your area.  We contribute materials to this organization all the time including some really nice cabinets.  The old saying “ one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.”  These cabinets are then re-sold at a very reasonable price and the money goes to a great cause.  They also get a good deal of material from Home Centers.  I would think this would be the best source for inexpensive cabinets for you kitchen project.

Non-profit community organizations often operate thrift stores which may sell used cabinets. Keep in mind that you can only buy the cabinets that they have received, so you won't be able to choose particular widths or styles--only what you see. Still, I have seen some very nice base and wall cabinets in the thrift stores I visit. This really works only if you have plenty of time to wait and flexibility to use what you find. But the price is right!
