Can I apply laminate flooring on top of ceramic tile?

My kitchen has a ceramic tile floor and I would like to replace it with laminate. One home improvement center employee said that I can do it without removing the tiles. Is this true?

We definitely wouldn’t recommend something like this. Any time you place a new product on top of an old product, you’re setting yourself up for some serious issues, such as adherence, levelness, door clearances, thresholds into adjoining spaces, etc. The laminate probably wouldn’t be covered by warranty in this type of installation, either. It is always best to start with a good, solid, even surface.
